Bishop Adewole Bids Farewell to AVMCC, Welcomed to Lagos Southwest Diocese

On Friday, November 21, 2025, the Rt Rev. Ebenezer A. Adewole, PhD, moved from his role as the former Dean of the Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral in Ikeja to become the pioneer Bishop of the newly created Diocese of Lagos Southwest in the Anglican Communion. The events started with a farewell service at the Cathedral of the Diocese of Lagos West in Ikeja and ended with a welcome service at the Pro Cathedral Church of Pentecost on 21 Road in Festac Town.
The farewell service at AVMCC drew clergy and members of the Diocese of Lagos West who came to honour Bishop Adewole. During the service, members of the cathedral showed appreciation for his dedication, his steady leadership, and the impact he had on the cathedral community. Many speakers reflected on his work, and the congregation prayed for his success as he steps into his new responsibilities.
Later that day, the Pro-Cathedral Church of Pentecost in Festac held a welcome service that carried a sense of excitement. The atmosphere was lively, and the congregation showed clear support for Bishop Adewole as the new diocese prepares to grow under his leadership. The service highlighted unity and a shared commitment to the work ahead.
These two services lead into the upcoming inauguration of the Diocese of Lagos Southwest and the enthronement of Bishop Adewole, which will take place on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at 9:00 AM at the Cathedral Church of The Pentecost. Bishop Adewole was consecrated on November 9, 2025, in Abuja, along with fourteen other new bishops, marking the start of this new chapter for the Church of Nigeria.
